UIL Academic Competition

UIL Academic Competition

For the past few years, each network in Arlington ISD has competed in the UIL A+ competition.  These are academic contests where students work on a particular area and compete against their peers from surrounding schools.  Corey Academy hosted this year's contest, led by Chrystena Talamantez, Corey Academy GT Specialist.  The competitions include Dictionary, Spelling, Oral Reading, Art, Calculator, Math, Chess Puzzle, etc.  The UIL website describes the A+ contests this way...

The program of academic competition for elementary, middle school and junior high school became the "A+ Academics" in 2008.  A+ Academics includes 20 different events for grades 2-8.  These events span the curriculum - they are designed to complement and expand upon what students learn in the classroom, both through learning specific subject knowledge, and through learning skills that are valuable in many disciplines.  Approximately 3,000 Texas schools participate in A+ Academics, competing in more than 300 district meets each year."  --  http://www.uiltexas.org/aplus

The First Grade Showcase

A Winter Night's Dream

Our first graders recently performed in their fall showcase, A Winter Night's Dream.  We are so proud of their performance and we are pleased to share that performance with you here.

As the program continue to develop, we wanted to share a bit of our performance philosophy with you.  With the development of any performing art, the focus in the first years of study is around building foundational skills which prepare students for deeper application in their performing arts.  With our kindergarten, first grade and second grade students, we plan to alternate between parent informances and showcases.  These will allow all students to perform and focus on the use of their foundational skills and being on stage.  As they continue to develop, expect performances to be deeper and more complex.  These foundational skills yield to plays, concerts, art gallery shows, piano recitals, and musicals.  We try to record every performance to create a library, but some of the material is copyrighted by the publisher.  Whenever possible, we will post performances here on the blog.  If copyright does not allow public posting, but allows distribution to the performers, we will make those recordings available at our cost.

Thanks for being a part of the journey. Enjoy the latest performance !

Finishing Strong

Greetings everyone and Happy Summer !

I am proud to report that we finished the year with a terrific sixth-grade graduation and a wonderful Kindergarten graduation.  The best news is that there is no construction this summer!

Our sixth graders were a great group this year and we were so proud to send them to Boles in style.  Remember that you have the power to make a difference in this world.  We are proud of you and we wish you the very best at Boles.
Check out the celebration video of our 2017 sixth graders.
(Thanks to Mr. Starr for putting this together.)

Congratulations are also in order for our second class of Dual Language Kindergarteners.
These kids are the graduating class of 2029.  Is that a real number?

We are so proud of your accomplishments and we can't wait to see the positive impact you make on this world.  Enjoy the video of our 2017 Kindergarten Graduation.
