The 2015-2016 schedule - We need your feedback

After significant efforts from a multitude of people, I am happy to announce that we have a schedule that we feel will meet everyone's needs.  As you know the Kindergarten students that enter Corey in the fall of 2015 have chosen to be the inaugural class of the Fine Arts and Dual Language Academy and they are in for a wonderful new adventure.  Of course we have 1st grade through 6th grade students who continue to be a part of Corey as it has always been, steeped in excellence and tradition and providing the best instructional setting that we can possibly provide to students.

The team working on this schedule wanted to ensure that Corey is one unit, that we both honor and protect the wonderful environment that Corey has been but that we also welcome the future with excitement and openness. We believe this schedule does both.

You may not be aware that the remodeling of Corey Academy will begin in November of 2015.  This remodeling will occur in phases through August of 2016.  However, our new programming begins as soon as students are back in school in August.

This schedule allows for additional exposure to many fine arts for our continuing students and ensures that our academy students are getting a language-rich and fine-arts rich education in addition to our high-quality academics.

Our next step is to collect feedback from you the parents about this schedule.  So with that in mind, I want to share a few documents with you.

This PDF will provide an overview of the schedule and the fine arts electives.  We welcome your comments, questions and suggestions.

For incoming 5th and 6th grade students, you will be choosing elective paths not unlike you would in junior high.

Thanks in advance for sharing this with our Corey community.  The more feedback we have, the better.

Thanks,

  1. My 5th grader is disappointed that she has to choose between strings and art. She LOVES art!!!

  2. Actually, that is not a change. When students choose strings they opt out of music and art. That is true for other elementaries as well. We do hope to offer some after school clubs in art and other things to give those kids lots of options.

  5. With anything new it will be a work in progress; we should be flexible and understand that. Thank you for your hard work and getting this started this is a great start.
